If you love visiting Amish Country, then you know there is so much to do! It’s hard to fit in everything on your list in just a weekend, and since not very much is open on Sundays, you’ll have to save some things for your next visit. If this Farm is not on your list, it should be! One of my family favorites is visiting The Farm at Walnut Creek. We love it in every season, but an especially beautiful time to visit is fall.
In past visits, we opted for the horse drawn wagon ride through the farm, it is so much fun and the driver gives fun narration about the animals and answers any questions that you may have. For this trip, we decided to try driving our own vehicle since we have never done this before. The experience is a little different and really fun too! You can purchase feed (additional cost) and they will explain your route; it is a little over 2 miles. Admission is a little cheaper when you drive your own vehicle and you can go at your own pace (as long as the food doesn’t run out!)
There are no shortages on animals either-you will get to see lots of cattle; Watusi, Texas Longhorn, Brahma and others, zebras, donkeys, horses, sheep and goats, several species of deer and elk, giraffes, Vietnamese Pot Belly pigs, porcupines, tortoises, red kangaroos, ducks geese and swans, llamas and camels, ostriches and emu’s, pigeons, parrots, quail and pheasants to name a few! Depending on what time of year that you visit, there may be some babies to see too.
Admission is $15 adult and $12 per child if you drive your own vehicle. Or $21 adult/$16 child with the wagon ride (feed included). Admission either way includes the drive through tour of the farm, getting up close to feed the animals, the petting zoo, playgrounds, aviary, picnic areas and farmhouse tours.
After you drive through, park your car and take some time to walk the beautifully landscaped grounds while visiting the petting zoo and aviary. Walk by the pond and see the animals there too. You can also visit different areas of the farm, the blacksmith area and even take an Amish home tour-some days they have fresh-baked cookies to sample!
You can even pack a picnic lunch and eat at the farm, they have tables and picnic areas for you to enjoy. After lunch, let the kids run and play in the playground area. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
The Farm at Walnut Creek is located at 4147 County Road 114 Sugarcreek, Ohio, just outside Walnut Creek Ohio. They are open from April thru October Monday-Saturday 8:30am-6pm, closed Sundays. Please visit their website for hours, admission and special events at www.thefarmatwalnutcreek.com.
